The youngest island in the Canary archipelago has a variety of landscapes and ecosystems. Although its surface is only 269 km2, its protected natural areas occupy almost 60% of it. Due to importance of its nature, this island has been declared World Biosphere Reserve and it is part of the World´s Geopark Network. Our program runs through the most spectacular sites of El Hierro’s geography, to discover its geology and especially its volcanism, forests and biodiversity due to its varied and rich vegetation and wild life as, for instance, the endemic giant lizard. Also, to observe and feel customs and traditions of a population fully adapted to live in a remote island that for many centuries was known as the frontier of the known world before Atlantic Ocean was crossed and explored.
